Windsor, Ont. Walkerville Brewery proudly announces its Honest Lager has won more praise. This time it’s not for what’s on the inside; it’s what on the outside. The 2015 Summit Creative Awards selected their can design as the Gold level winner, beating out over 5000 other submissions from around the world. When the owner of Walkerville Brewery, Mike Brkovich, made the decision to offer up the Lager in a new format, he knew the design had to carry on the Walkerville tradition.
“We’re always looking to expand our offerings and innovative ways to deliver great-tasting beers, but it’s important we remember where we come from. Dating back to prohibition, the area has a rich tradition we wanted to capture in the design,” said Brkovich.
The design features master brewers from the pre-prohibition days celebrating the craftsmanship and quality put in to every brew. Honest Lager was named in recognition of Hiram Walker’s honest approach to premium brewing that used only the finest ingredients. Developing a unique positioning that sets Walkerville Brewery apart, while staying true to the brand, was essential, so Brkovich called on Douglas Marketing Group (DMG). The agency has worked closely with the brewery to communicate the vision of innovation and tradition.
Liz Farano, Vice-President of DMG, remarked, “We’re excited to hear that our design took the gold in the packaging category. From around the world and any product, Walkerville Brewery’s image came out on top. It’s a testament to the relationship we have. From the beginning, they’ve been open in communicating their goals for the product line and their attachment to history. That honesty makes it easier to tell the brewery’s brand story.”
Not one to rest on success, Brkovich is pleased to announce the next big thing from Walkerville Brewery, “We have a new stout on the way that we think people will really enjoy. It’s got such an easy-to-drink quality for a stout that we called it, Easy Stout.”
About the Honest Lager: Hiram Walker, founder of Walkerville, started brewing beer in 1885. He set out to use only the finest Canadian ingredients to create the purest brew possible. The Honest lager lives up to his legacy and standard for brewing pure, “honest” beers.
